I hope you are all settling into the fall season and planning for some wonderful holiday celebrations with friends and family.
This month has many important observations such as breast cancer awareness, Indigenous Peoples Day, Global Diversity, World Mental Health Day and so many others. I would like to focus my letter this month on Global Diversity.
Global diversity grows us on so many levels and helps enrich our lives in ways we may not always recognize. How does learning about the beliefs or cultures of others help enrich your life? Learning about and being exposed to different cultures, traditions, and beliefs, we begin to appreciate different perspectives, ways of living, and experiences that we would have not been exposed to prior. This allows us to understand different values and belief systems which can help us to be more open-minded, understanding, and empathetic. It also promotes economic growth. When people of different backgrounds work together, they bring unique perspectives, knowledge, and experiences that can lead to new ideas that may challenge the market status quo.
When people from different backgrounds come together and share perspectives, they are working to challenge stereotypes and help us recognize the commonalities that exist among us. I have always loved when people share their stories with me. It allows me an opportunity to challenge and grow my beliefs, understanding, and experience. How can you expand your awareness or create more open-minded opportunities for yourself and your community?
