Tell us what brought you to Pearl and what skills you acquired in each of your previous roles that helped get you to your current role?
My best bud was a recruiter for Pearl in 2021. He sent me the job and told me it sounded perfect for me, and it was! I’ve always been a tinkerer, and sometimes a necessity to fix things has helped learn troubleshooting. From fixing cars, broken phones and home appliances, I have saved a ton by giving it my best shot. I attended Awesome Inc’s Web Development Bootcamp in 2017. Although I didn’t go directly into the field of web development, it gave me a deeper dive into technology. This led me to begin working as a technology contractor shortly after. I’ve installed and troubleshot technology in various industries and settings. From a cellular antenna on the side of a silo, to a water fountain at a cycle bar. I didn’t always know what I was doing, but I was confident I could figure it out.
What are your career goals?
I love what I do, but if I was to change roles, I think project management would fit my talents.
What has been the biggest lesson you have learned in your job?
PSSC has some of the best and most interesting people. I never imagined working with a team that I may never meet in person, but get to connect with every day. In my previous job I didn’t have coworkers as I was an “Independent” contractor, so I’m glad these are some good ones.
What is your advice for someone who may be interested in pursuing a role in your current field?
Be curious, patient, and willing to learn. Put yourself in situations that help you learn and grow. Leverage your connections and the vast amount of free resources available to you on the internet.
What is a Fun Fact that many of your coworkers may not know?
I held the school record for Racewalking at the University of the Cumberlands. Not because I was a fast racewalker or remotely good at it, but because I was the first to ever do it at the school. My record was immediately broken the following year.
Do you have a special talent or any hobbies?
I’ve always enjoyed standup comedy and was able do some open mics and local events a few years ago. Since I have my 3 girls, I’m too busy to pursue that at the moment, but I still like to crack a few jokes. I hope to get back on stage eventually.
