WFD recognizes Purple Heart Day: Mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart
Purple Heart Day was observed first in 2014 and has been celebrated yearly on August 7th. It is a day to allow Americans to honor and remember those who bravely served our country, suffered injuries, or killed while serving. These individuals are adorned with the Purple Heart in the name of the President. The day is usually celebrated by the military in America, which organize memorials and commemoration meetings for those who have died in combat as ceremonies to honor veterans and wounded soldiers fighting against the enemy.
The mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among combat wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support necessary legislative initiatives, and most importantly, provide service to all veterans and their families. Members are Combat Wounded Veterans dedicated to our country and our veteran community who endeavor to do better for each other and by each other always. Chartered by Congress for combat wounded Veterans. The Purple Heart is composed of military men and women who received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat or by an act of international terrorism. Although membership is restricted to the combat wounded, they support all veterans and their families with a myriad of nation-wide programs by Chapters and National Service Officers.
