The work from home environment has a lot of positives for the employees including the flexibility to finish your tasks, but what about ensuring the proper use of the provided equipment? Your workstation is where you put all your energy when working remotely and the equipment is the key factor to perform your job duties, so it is important to maintain it and keep it safe.
Here are some do\’s and don’ts for keeping your equipment in working order:
Do:
- Keep your laptop in a clean surface free of clutter.
- While opening and closing the laptop move it gently, otherwise it may cause the hinges to break.
- When cleaning, gently wipe your laptop using a soft, dirt-free cloth.
- Ensure your laptop is in a safe and secure place away from pets and children.
- Restart your laptop at least once a week to allow for any remote updates to be processed.
- Remember to shut the laptop down when work is complete, just like people, it needs time off.
Do Not:
- Leave your laptop in direct sunlight or in dusty area.
- Rest your laptop on uneven, unsteady or yielding surfaces.
- Use laptop while in bed or put it on the bed with pillows and blankets around. This may cause a fire as the cooling fan is unable to cool the laptop.
- Eat or drink near the laptop. Spills can damage the external devices like the mouse and keyboard as well as the laptop itself.
