Hello Pearl Team!
With summer ending, we usher in the next phase of the year with a celebration of Labor Day. While many see it as a long weekend of sales and last-minute summer fun, let us take a moment to appreciate what it truly represents.
Labor Day has been recognized as far back as 1882 to honor and recognize the contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. Many of the rights we enjoy and take for granted today, were hard-fought wins by the labor movement of the late 19th century. Labor Day was created to honor the people who campaigned tirelessly for workers’ rights. So, no matter how you decide to celebrate Labor Day 2022, take some time to reflect and pay tribute to all the laborers, past and present, who helped build America and make it the country it is today.
I would like to take a moment to thank you for embracing our mission, for representing yourselves on behalf of Pearl, and for consistently working beyond your capacity when needed. You make Pearl successful. You make America successful.
Another topic I would like to share with you is the announcement of the new U.S. Mint’s 2023 American Women Quarter series, which focuses on trailblazing women in our history. The first five coins scheduled to be released will honor the following distinguished American women:
- Bessie Coleman – first African and Native American woman pilot
- Edith Kanaka’ole – indigenous Hawaiian composer, custodian of nature culture and traditions
- Eleanor Roosevelt – first lady, author, and civil liberties activist
- Jovita Idar – Mexican American journalist, activist, teacher, and suffragist
- Maria Tallchief – America’s first prima ballerina
There will be 20 coins in all that will honor women who mean so much to our country’s history and have blazed a path for women to follow. We have many people in our country’s history that are considered trailblazers, but it excites me to see women being recognized to help inspire and encourage young women.
The term “trailblazer” has changed over time. Instead of referring to a person who cut a literal path, the term has transformed to mean someone who has created something new and inventive – a medical technique or an art form.
I see you as trailblazers for Pearl. Much of what we do is new, and you amaze me by developing new ways to serve your teammates and those you interact with. I would love to see everyone adopt a trailblazing attitude for anything that inspires you and others, both professionally and personally. Find your passion and make it better. Encourage others to do the same.
