Mental Health Matters: Prioritizing Well-Being in Every Season

Mental health is an essential part of our overall well-being — just as important as physical health, and just as deserving of attention and care. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness each year, and 1 in 6 youth aged 6–17 experience a mental health disorder. These numbers show that mental health challenges are more common than we often realize, affecting our coworkers, friends, and even ourselves.

Despite how widespread these struggles are, mental health still carries stigma in many spaces. That is why it is so important to normalize conversations around stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, and emotional well-being. Creating a culture where people feel safe and supported by talking about mental health — without fear of judgment — is a powerful step toward healing and prevention. When we take care of our minds, we improve our relationships, our work, and our overall quality of life.

So how can we protect and nurture our mental health? It starts with small, intentional habits: taking breaks during the day, setting boundaries, getting enough sleep, moving your body regularly, and seeking connection with others. Mindfulness practices like deep breathing or journaling can help manage stress in the moment, while therapy or counseling can offer long-term tools and support. And do not forget — asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Thankfully, support is just a phone call or click away. Through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), you and your household members can access up to five free counseling sessions, confidentially provided by licensed professionals. Services also include lifestyle coaching, digital emotional wellness tools, and expert help with financial wellness, legal matters, and identity theft resolution. You will even find discounts through LifeMart®, webinars, and other practical resources to support your well-being. Whether you need emotional support, guidance on parenting, or tools to navigate daily challenges, your EAP is here to help.
