Talent Acquisition and Workforce Development: Embracing Diversity through HUBZone Recruiting

In the competitive landscape of talent acquisition, the Workforce Development Referrals team stands out with its strategic approach to fostering diversity and equity, particularly within the Call Center and Healthcare industries. Our emphasis on HUBZone recruiting is not just a commitment to diversity but also a strategic business decision that aligns with federal goals and supports community development.

HUBZone, which stands for Historically Underutilized Business Zone, is a program that encourages economic growth in distressed areas by providing preferential access to federal procurement opportunities. By focusing on HUBZone recruiting, the team not only taps into a diverse talent pool but also contributes to the revitalization of these communities.

Maintaining HUBZone status requires a company to ensure that at least 35% of its workforce resides within a HUBZone, presenting both challenges and opportunities for businesses. For instance, smaller companies may find their eligibility affected by a single hire, while mid-size companies could be impacted by winning a contract in a non-HUBZone area.

The benefits of HUBZone recruiting extend beyond compliance. It is a chance to build a workforce that reflects the rich tapestry of society, bringing varied perspectives and ideas to the table. This diversity can lead to more innovative solutions and a more inclusive work environment, which is especially beneficial in industries like healthcare, where understanding and empathy are paramount.

The Workforce Development Referrals team’s focus on HUBZone recruiting is a testament to their dedication to creating a workforce that not only meets federal standards but also embodies the values of diversity and equity. Our proven strategies serve as a model for others looking to make a meaningful impact in their industries and communities.

As a social enterprise, Pearl was founded on the principle of offering hiring priority to a niche and skilled work force of those who experience barriers to employment. Today, our organization is a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) which plays a pivotal role in promoting diversity and inclusion within the workforce. The certification is not just a badge of identity; it is a gateway to enhanced business prospects, economic equity, and a more inclusive corporate culture.

MBE Certification offers a multitude of benefits, including increased visibility to potential clients and partners who are committed to diversifying their supply chains. This is especially significant as many corporations, government entities, and organizations have implemented policies to encourage supplier diversity. A study highlighted that MBE-certified firms are 67% more likely to hire diverse talent, including at the highest levels, compared to the average U.S. company. This not only challenges existing assumptions but also leads to more innovative solutions, demonstrating the far-reaching impact of MBE Certification on hiring practices and workplace diversity.

Pearl's Diversity Stats for Q2 - 48% Minorities, Employees identified as minority, of which 36.49% identify as Black. 36% HUBZone, Employees who live in economically challenged areas. 21% Niche, Employees who identify as having a disability, a Veteran, or a military Spouse. 81% Women, employees who identify as female.Figure 2 Pearl’s workforce continues to show growth in diversity.
