Hello, Pearl Team.
This month, we observe Diversity Month, Earth Day, and National Volunteer Month, among many others. Because of the passion that drives Pearl’s mission of giving hiring priority to people with barriers, I’d like to focus my letter on celebrating diversity.
One of the things we all have in common is that we are all completely, beautifully, and uniquely different. As a result of those differences, it’s important to understand, appreciate, learn, and celebrate our multicultural society. Understanding and observing the history, cultures, and traditions of those with a different life experience than our own is a way to appreciate how unique our world is. Diversity month is meant to bring awareness and to foster and honor the uniqueness of people while emphasizing what we share.
Diversity involves honoring a broad range of areas like race, culture, language, age, religion, physical disabilities, nationality, and gender. Taking the time to honor and celebrate diversity means we are recognizing and honoring the similarities, differences, and experiences of those around us. One of the ways to develop an appreciation for the diversity of others is to understand our own heritage and to take time to learn about the world around us and how these diverse cultures have shaped our history and present-day experience.
If you’d like to dive deeper into celebrating diversity, consider engaging in cultural conversations or attend events that feature different cultures food, film, art, performances, or music.
